Removing noise from EVP's

Postby steveg on Thu Aug 23, 2007 1:43 pm

If anyone has had success in removing noise from EVP's, could you please let us know what software you are using and maybe give a step by step tutorial on how you did it? I have tried Audacity and CoolEdit 2000. I was not able to get good results with either. As soon as I get a chance, I'm going to try Adobe Audition 2.0.

I have Audition, but I haven't used it recently enough to remember if it works any good.

One of the best ways to reduce noise IMO is to take measures pre-production. By using an external microphone with a wind screen.

But the real experts, or at least the best experts I know of personally in this area, is Kurt of HPI and Katie Kinter of FVGH.

I did try Audition last night and again, did not get good results. When I remove the noise, the remaining audio sounds really tinny and distorted.

I'll check out the web site you mentioned to see if they have tips on how to configure the noise reduction.

I own and opperate a recording studio in milwaukee. Removing ambient noise from an evp would be a process and each individual evp would be different. I have Logic Pro, as well as other software. Logic is by far the finest software available. There are different filters that can be used to filter out background noises and such. White noise, pink noise, high and low frequecies. This may or may not effect the actual evp also. Depending on what frequency range the audio is in. Look up white and pink noise on wikipedia to get started. Not sure what software you might be able to get for that, logic has it built in, a sort of noise cancelation plug in.
